New Deworming Guidelines

2025 brings about new deworming guidlines! Check them out via the READ MORE button below. Here are a few takeaways from the new guidelines.

Takeaways

  1. Conduct an annual fecal egg count reduction test.
  2. No dewormer can eradicate all parasitic stages from a horse.
  3. Perform fecal egg counts 1-2 times a year to distinguish between low and high shedders.
  4. Deworm all horses at a baseline frequency (twice a year). Only deworm more frequently if high shedders (> 500 EPG).
  5. Refrain from using FEC (fecal egg count) as a tool for disease diagnosis.
  6. Cease the practice of deworming all horses at fixed intervals throughout the year and abandon the practice of blindly rotating dewormers.

As always, feel free to ask our doctors if you have questions.

Happy Retirement, Ellen!

Every Ending is a New Beginning

Our wonderful Office Manager, Ellen Wrenn, will be leaving us at the end of February. Ellen has spent the last 25 years at Keswick Equine Clinic and she has worn many hats here including office manager and bookkeeper. She came to us with a lot of hands-on equine experience from managing Hare Forest Farm, a Thoroughbred breeding operation in Orange, VA.

She has always been a reliable and caring professional and will be dearly missed by our team, clients and everyone who had the privilege of working with her. While we are saddened to learn she will be moving on, we wish her many happy and fulfilling days in her retirement.

As we say farewell to Ellen we would also like to welcome Christy McFarland, who will be stepping in to fill this important position in our clinic. Christy comes to us with many years of human medical practice and equine management under her belt as well as being an avid equestrian most of her life.

We are happy to have her and look forward to a long and promising future together. Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for more on Christy!
